Although she started out her career working on nuclear energy policy in the White House, Ina Garten has today become one of the country's most recognizable names when it comes to food. In 1978 she made the decision to change careers and bought a small food store in the Hamptons area of New York's Long Island. Called the Barefoot Contessa after the classic Humphrey Bogart/Ava Gardner movie, the shop became hugely successful under Ina's care, later closing it to bring her knack for entertaining to the food network.
